Young Thug had a big night at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 10). Not only did Thugger appear alongside Camila Cabello to perform their Grammy-nominated hit "Havana," but he also won his very first gramophone for his work on Childish Gambino's "This Is America."

The song, which won Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Music Video at this year's awards show, featured Thug as a writer and as a background vocalist on ad-libs (alongside Quavo, BlocBoy JB, Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd and 21 Savage). Because of this, Thugger received his trophy for Song of the Year. He's now a part of history, too, as this marks the first time ever that a rap song has won in that category.

"This Is America" beat out Drake's "God's Plan", Ella Mai's "Boo'd Up", Kendrick Lamar and SZA's Black Panther soundtrack single "All The Stars", Shawn Mendes' "In My Blood," Brandi Carlile's "The Joke," A Star Was Born's "Shallow" and Zedd's "The Middle" in the Song of the Year category.

Gambino was not on hand to accept his awards, however, as The New York Times reported that he declined the Recording Academy’s offer to perform at the show.

For his part, Thugger almost missed the awards show. On Sunday (Feb. 10), TMZ reported that the rapper was pulled over and even handcuffed just hours before the big show. According to the report, the rapper and his crew were guilty of a traffic violation, and after the police made everyone exit the vehicle, one of Thug's crew members admitted that he was carrying a registered firearm. While the weapon was registered, cops soon discovered that the gun was not registered in California and subsequently arrested Thugger's associate. Thankfully, they let everyone else go on their way.
