Young Nudy Arrested With 21 Savage

UPDATE: On Mon., Feb. 4, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported on Young Nudy's arrest, which took place while he was with 21 Savage. They've also provided more details surrounding the incident.

According to the local outlet, police arrested Nudy on gang and assault charges after the rapper's performance in DeKalb County at 3 a.m. EST on Sunday.

“We believe that Young Nudy is innocent and this is a case of mistaken identity,” Smith said. “Young Nudy's legal team is working closely with law enforcement to ensure this case does not get blown out of proportion.”

New developments regarding the arrest of 21 Savage have now surfaced online, and it looks like Young Nudy played an unexpected, but highly consequential role in the rapper's arrest for allegedly being an illegal immigrant. We now know that the two rappers were arrested at the same time on Sunday morning (Feb. 3).

According to CBS News Atlanta, Nudy, whose real name is Quantavious Thomas, and two other men were also arrested for reasons unrelated to 21’s immigration arrest. 21, whose born name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, just happened to be with them at the time.

Apparently, federal agents were actually conducting an operation targeting Nudy and the other suspects not named 21. Nudy, 21 and two other men were pulled over by Atlanta police in a vehicle they were riding in and then arrested. Police ran 21’s name through the system and subsequently handed him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) due to the fact that 21 was a convicted felon whose visa had expired back in 2006.

21's arrest came as a complete shock to the hip-hop community. ICE announced the news earlier today.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA ‘21 Savage’ during a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday in metro Atlanta," ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said in an official statement earlier today. "Mr. Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the U.S. and also a convicted felon.”

Meanwhile, the hip-hop community has stepped forward to support 21 Savage after his arrest. One of 21's supporters was Killer Mike, who offered his heartfelt support for the "A Lot" rapper on Twitter.

"My sincere hope is to see this young man who has made a way for himself allowed to stay and continue to prosper and grow his legacy," he tweeted. "Sincere prayers for him and his family and team. @21savage Should be allowed to remain in this country."
