Tyga Hit With Lawsuit for Allegedly Stealing “Swap Meet” From Songwriter
According to a report TMZ published Friday morning (Jan. 25), singer/songwriter Pretty Maw has filed suit against the "Dip" rapper over his 2018 track "Swap Meet," which she says steals elements of her song, "17th."
According to Maw, it's no coincidence either—they reportedly had a deal in place where Tyga was set to pay her "a fixed monetary amount" to use the song. She was also supposed to get royalties from the song's success. She alleges that Tyga "induced her into allowing him to use her image and likeness for his song," as she appears at the end of the music video.
Pretty Maw is seeking damages and an order against Tyga to stop ripping her off. The terms of this lawsuit aren't yet known.
This latest suit is a part of a long line of suits filed against T-Raww, who's seemed to be getting hit with lawsuits left and right. So far, he's dealt with everything from a repossessed Ferrari to unpaid rent to reportedly trashing the location he'd rented for his now-defunct Last Kings store.
At one point, Tyga was even sued by a process server who was handing him papers from another lawsuit! (His entourage had allegedly beat the guy up.) However, things seemed to really start turning around for Tyga in 2018—so much so that social media has been arguing that he earned the spot for the biggest comeback of the year. In the last few months, not only did he not get any lawsuits, but his Offset-assisted single, "Taste," was certified 3x platinum by the RIAA, while the Nicki Minaj-assisted "Dip" was recently certified gold.
Hopefully this latest lawsuit can be sorted quickly and put behind him. XXL has reached out to Tyga's team for comment.
