BlocBoy JB Might Sue ‘Fortnite’ Video Game Creators Over “Shoot” Dance

BlocBoy JB may be the next in line to file suit against Fortnite for the use of his dance moves. Taking to Twitter today (Dec. 20), the 2018 XXL Freshman asked fans whether a lawsuit should be in order for their depiction of his popular "Shoot" dance.

"Should I Sue Fortnite Or Nah?" JB asked with a thinking emoji.

In the popular game, players are able to purchase dances (known as "emotes") for their characters, and many of them have been directly taken from rappers and influencers with neither credit nor compensation given. Other dances they've used include 2 Milly's "Milly Rock," which the Brooklyn rapper recently announced his plans to sue for.

This isn't the first time BlocBoy JB has made mention of Fortnite using his moves. Earlier this fall, he aired his grievances via Twitter, writing "EveryTime Somebody Does My Dance Dey Give Credit To @FortniteGame But Dey Ain’t Create Nothing But Da Game So Basically Dey Takin Money And Credit For My Shit Dats Crazy."

This differs from his initial reaction back in May, however, when he seemed pleased that his moves had made their way to the popular game.

Chance The Rapper has chimed in on the topic of Fortnite using these dance moves as well, and he wants them to pay up.

"Fortnite should put the actual rap songs behind the dances that make so much money as Emotes," Chano wrote in a series of tweets. "Black creatives created and popularized these dances but never monetized them. Imagine the money people are spending on these Emotes being shared with the artists that made them."
