ORIGINAL STORY:

Dave East faces some legal trouble ahead of this week's release of his joint project with Styles P. The "Party Monster" rapper was charged today (Oct. 2) with misdemeanor assault, TMZ reports.

East is accused of punching a 28-year-old man named Joel Rosario near Pier 40 in the Hudson River Park while both men were leaving a "party cruise." The victim told the celebrity gossip website that he didn't interact with East on the cruise and doesn't know why he was punched. Rosario was reportedly treated for a laceration above his left eye.

The Harlem rapper turned himself in to New York police this morning and was promptly charged and released from custody. He's scheduled to appear in court in December, according to the report.

"We appeared as requested at the police precinct and we look forward to reviewing the criminal court complaint and investigating. My client is an absolute gentleman," East's attorney Stacey Richman told TMZ.

East and Styles P are scheduled to release a joint project titled Beloved on Friday (Oct. 5). The full-length includes production from P's son and a posse cut featuring all three members of The Lox. East's latest mixtape Karma 2 dropped in July; Styles' ninth solo album G-Host dropped in May.
