Apparently, Stephen Colbert has a knack for recognizing rhyme schemes, and found that Chance The Rapper's Acid Rap track "Favorite Song" (featuring Childish Gambino) has some similarities with surprising works of literature.

In a recent video with Rolling Stone, the veteran television host and comedian said that he had an "earworm" when he first heard "Favorite Song," and couldn't figure out why it sounded so familiar. That was, until, he realized that it reminded him of the rhyming structures used both a song from an 1879 opera The Pirates of Penzance and a poem by J.R.R. Tolkien in Lord of the Rings.

In particular, he points to the tail-end of Chance's first verse in the song. "Bang, bang, bang, skeet, skeet, skeet/She do that thing for three retweets/The album feel like '92/Now take that ball 'fore he three-peat/Chance, ho, acid, cruising on that LSD/Asked Joseph about my deal, he looked back said "hell yeah, let's eat," he raps.

According to Colbert, this bears resemblance to a poem written by J.R.R. Tolkien in Lord of the Rings, which reads, "The Earendil was a mariner, who tarried in Arvernien/Who built a ship of timber fells in Nimbrethel just to sail her in."

“It’s the same rhythm!” Colbert exclaimed. “And you don’t see it a lot of places. It’s a pretty rare rhyme and rhythm scheme because it’s got a lot of internal rhymes within the lines. So whether or not you know it, Chance and Childish, you wrote a song that includes in it this really kind of rare rhyme and rhythm scheme that Tolkien used in the poem that actually influences all of the rest of Lord of the Rings.”

Though the comparison may come as a bit of a surprise, Colbert's familiarity with hip-hop certainly isn't. Earlier this year, he had Lil Uzi Vert on 'The Late Show' to perform his hit song "The Way Life Goes," and just two weeks ago, brought Nicki Minaj on the show to discuss her new album Queen and the buzzing song "Barbie Dreams."

Nicki ended up adding Colbert's name to the song, freestyling some lyrics that definitely had him blushing.
