50 Cent Hit With $3 Million Defamation Lawsuit by Hip-Hop Website

50 Cent is in legal trouble again, this time with hip-hop website HipHopDX, after the site hit the rapper with a $3 million defamation lawsuit.

According to documents obtained by The Blast on Monday (July 30), the site claims 50 hurt their reputation by labeling them "fake news" on Instagram. "The celebrity known as 50 Cent has maliciously used his power and influence to falsely attack a small, independent media company for its unfavorable but entirely truthful content,” the lawsuit reportedly states.

“In late June 2018, it exposed as false certain public statements made by 50 Cent claiming to have sold the rights to a three-word catchphrase for a million dollars," the suit continues.

The New York rapper originally sued the site in June for allegedly using a photo of his without permission. The move appeared to be out of retaliation after the site reported that 50 falsely claimed he sold his "Get the Strap" phrase for $1 million.

“This shit is fake news Justin lvey, you better go fact check," the "Still Think I'm Nothing" rapper wrote on Instagram. "Matter of fact I’m gonna sue you and this website for using my picture in the morning.”

But the website claims it reported the story truthfully and is now comparing 50 Cent's attack on the site to that of President Donald Trump going after the mainstream media.

“False attacks by celebrities and public figures on journalists and media companies, branding them as ‘fake news,’ have become a powerful weapon for pulling readers away from otherwise respected sources," the lawsuit reads. "These are not merely political or public relations issues for media companies."

The website denies all of the allegations in 50 Cent's lawsuit and is seeking $3 million in damages from the rapper. XXL has reached out to 50's team for a comment on the suit.
