XXXTentacion's music spiked on streaming services after his fatal shooting in South Florida on June 18. That increased attention on the slain rapper's output is reflected in this week's Billboard Hot 100, where X's song "Sad!" surged from No. 52 to No. 1 in the week following his death.

The track, which previously peaked on the chart at No. 7, becomes XXXTentacion's first No. 1 single, and places him in hallowed grounds. The last artist to posthumously top the Hot 100 was The Notorious B.I.G., whose songs "Mo Money Mo Problems" and "Hypnotize" each spent several weeks atop the chart in the months following his death in 1997. X unseated Drake's "Nice for What" track for the top spot.

"Sad!," from X's March album ?, broke at least one streaming record in the past week. On the day after the shooting, the song was streamed 10.4 million times on Spotify, surpassing Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" for the most single-day streams in the platform's history. That same day also saw "Sad!" top the iTunes chart and ?'s CD sales spike 54,057 percent on Amazon.

The rapper, born Janseh Onfroy, was shot and killed outside a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Fla. on June 18. The Broward Sheriff's Office has arrested one suspect and reportedly issued arrest warrants for two additional suspects.

XXXTentacion's death was met with grieving from several hip-hop greats. Last night at the 2018 BET Awards, Meek Mill joined the chorus during his performance by wearing a sweatshirt featuring an illustration of X's face, as well as that of Jimmy Wopo, who was fatally shot on the same day. Ski Mask The Slump God also wore a tribute to X at the awards show in the form of a face mask. X himself wore a similar mask to the 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards.
