Today in Hip-Hop: Busta Rhymes Drops ‘Anarchy’ Album

On this day, June 20, in hip-hop history...

2000: Busta Rhymes continues his reign among rap's elite by unleashing Anarchy, his fourth studio album.

Checking in at a mammoth 22 tracks, the Busta Bus' star-studded LP included features from Jay-Z, DMX, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, M.O.P., Lenny Kravitz and Roc Marciano and production from the likes of Just Blaze, Nottz, DJ Shok and more. While the sheer number of songs can make the project a hard one to sift through, it still makes for a fun listen—especially if you're a die-hard fan of the Brooklyn rapper.

The project begins with a voice over actor detailing the state of the world abroad, which is one riddled with sickness, death and destruction. From there, we're taken to a dense barrage of dexterous flows from Busta.

"All praise due, we comin' through real hard/Niggas raisin they right hand, salutin' the God/Yo, like a burning sensation of Henny on the first sip/Hot shit my nigga; let me spit a verse quick," Busta spits on "Salute Da Gods!!" which is the first actual song on the LP.

While Anarchy isn't among the more memorable Busta Rhymes albums, the project, which was his fourth in as many years, was still solid in the success department. Upon its release, Anarchy debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart while moving 164,000 copies in its first week. The project would go on to be certified platinum.
