The freshmen are ganging up. According to an Instagram video posted by Lil Pump on Wednesday (June 20), the "Esskeetit" rapper plans to drop a joint project with fellow Floridian, Smokepurpp.

"So guys, after I drop this project, I'm droping a project with my boy Smokepurpp," Pump says in the video. "We about to drop some crazy shit."

Pump and Purpp form a logical pair, having risen in the same SoundCloud circles, and each helping define the lo-fi punk rap sound that came to dominate the platform. They've collaborated frequently over the years, including on Purpp's September mixtape, Deadstar, and Pump's self-titled debut album, and performed together at last year's Rolling Loud Festival.

They go way back, too. In a recent interview with Nardwuar, Pump said that he was nine years old when he first met Purpp — who is four years his senior — and revealed that they were kicked out of high school on the same day. It all comes full circle as both artists are featured in the 2018 XXL Freshman Class.

Whatever shape the duo's joint project takes, it will come after Pump lets loose his upcoming mixtape, Harvard Dropout, with or without a Kanye verse. Smokepurpp, for his part, is working on a Deadstar sequel. He shared the song, "Deadstar Lifestyle," earlier this month.
