J. Cole’s ‘KOD’ Album Goes Gold

Less than a month after its release, J. Cole's new album, KOD, has achieved gold status by the RIAA, certifying the chart-topping LP has moved half a million units.

This comes as no surprise to J. Cole fans as the man has made himself famous for going platinum with no features. The album is sure to reach platinum status within the next few months. This is, however, the fastest J. Cole has ever gotten to gold status, as it comes just 24 days after the release of KOD.

The entirety of the album has been an immediate hit, and even broke Apple Music and Spotify streaming records on its first day out. Cole broke the Apple Music 24-hour record with 64.5 million streams, while gaining 36.7 million streams on Spotify, breaking its first day U.S. album streams record.

The final song on the album, "1985 (Intro to 'The Fall Off)'," had fans buzzing that it was in reference to one artist in particular who had spoken out about J. Cole: Lil Pump. Cole never admitted that the song was targeting Pump specifically, but said rather that any artists who felt targeted by the song's message (which spoke about fleeting fame and flexing with big chains), felt a type of way because it applied to them.
