Despite stereotypes to the contrary, street art remains a vital artistic element of cities across the globe. On May 6, graffiti historian Roger Gastman will put a sizable chunk of that urban vitality on display when he launches Beyond the Streets, a multi-dimensional art exhibit that will provide art enthusiasts and passersby a window into some of the world's premier street artwork.

The multimedia exhibit will feature a variety of paintings, sculptures, photography and more spread out over more than 40,000 square feet of industrial indoor and outdoor space. In all, the work of more than 100 artists will be featured in the exhibit, including folks like Maripol, Jenny Holzer, Shepard Fairey, Takashi Murakami, Dash Snow, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Stephen Powers.

Launching its inaugural run in Los Angeles, this year's Beyond the Streets exhibit will pay tribute to the City of Angels' role as an artistic capital both in the past, present and future. That tribute will come in the form of special, on-site installations showcasing unique bits of artwork.

For instance, there will be the The Venice Pavilion, which will be a historical re-creation of Venice Beach's famed skate park where graffiti artists and boarders left their mark. Additionally, the installation, which was created in partnership with adidas Skateboarding, will feature graffiti from legendary writers from the Venice Beach community. And yes, you can skate on it. There will be more where that came from, too. Much more.

Check out a list of the artists with work at this forthcoming exhibit for yourself below. You can cop tickets for the forthcoming event on Beyond the Streets' official website.
