Starrah Calls on Rappers to Stop Being Homophobic

While Offset is in the hot seat for some seemingly homophobic lyrics he delivered on his new YFN Lucci collab "Boss Life," some other artists appear to be sounding off on his words. One of them is hit songwriter Starrah, who's issued a call on Twitter for rappers to stop being homophobic.

In a tweet, Starrah highlighted the fact that rappers often enjoy the works of the LGBT community, of which she belongs. "Rappers gotta chill with homophobia," she wrote. "It’s corny. Their hooks be be written by me and I’m LGBT af. Clothes be designed by a LGBT designer. The LGBT fam has the best vibe. Admit it & Respect it. It’s okay. ‍♀️."

"This community has to stop accepting fucked up narratives for our men and women. Everybody should be held to a higher cognitive standard. It’s 2018. Grow your mind body and spirit. ❤️," Starrah wrote in another tweet.

On the "Boss Life" track in question, Offset spits, "Pinky ring crystal clear, 40k spent on a private Lear/60k solitaire/I cannot vibe with queers." While the song dropped more than a month ago, it was only when the video dropped that most fans became aware of that particular lyric. Once fans caught wind of it, though, they let the internet know they weren't having it.

On late Thursday morning (Jan. 18), Offset apologized for his lyrics in a post uploaded to Instagram. In the post, he includes a screenshot of the definition for the word, "Queer," which lists the word as meaning "strange or odd." He says his line was not about homosexuals.

"I didn’t write the line about gay people," the Migos rapper begins. "I have said before since these issues before that I got love for all people. My passion for fashion has lead me to a lot of gay people around me who I have mad respect for and we are very cool so I’m not in a place where I’m hating like that."

He continues, "When I wrote that I was thinking of words that could rhyme with the others (here, lear, solitaire, bear) and I saw this definition about her having a queer feeling she was being watched and it fit what I was thinking about a stalker creepy paparazzi situation. To me that “queer” I don’t mean someone who’s gay. I mean lame people who film you, post it and stalk you. Lingo that means strange or odd. I M S O R R Y I A P O L O G I Z E I’m offended I offended anybody"
