UPDATE:

Marshmello reveals the title of his collaboration with Lil Peep is "Spotlight." The track is scheduled for release on Jan. 12.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Following the November death of Lil Peep, there hasn't been any music posthumously released from the rapper, but that's about to change.

Over the weekend, EDM producer Marshmello revealed he would be releasing a collaboration featuring the late rapper. "Marshmello x @Lilpeep this Friday 🙏🏼🌟," the DJ wrote. Marshmello also said that while he didn't plan on dropping the song, Lil Peep's mother asked him to.

"I didn’t plan on releasing the song until peeps mom reached out and told me she wanted her sons music to come out...what am I supposed to do?" he tweeted.

Recently, a new video for the rapper's song "Save That Shit" was released. The visuals feature different clips of Peep on tour and hanging out with friends and begins with a message from his mom that reads, "In loving memory of my son Gus."

In early December, Lil Peep's cause of death was revealed to have come from the "combined toxic effects of fentanyl and alprazolam." Alprazolam is the generic name for Xanax. Along with the fentanyl and Xanax, the rapper also had marijuana, cocaine and the painkiller Tramadol in his blood.

Shortly after the cause of death was revealed, the DEA launched an investigation into his death. According to a report from TMZ, officials were looking into a series of text and Twitter messages sent from a woman who saw the rapper before he passed away.
