Roughly one week after prison documents showed Kevin Gates' parole date had been switched from June to January, XXL has confirmed that the embattled Baton Rouge, La. rapper is set to be released from jail next week.

Speaking with XXL, Illinois Department of Corrections' spokesperson Lindsey Hess said that Gates, born Kevin Gilyard, is scheduled to be released from East Moline Correctional Center next Wednesday (Jan. 10).

Gates has been incarcerated in Illinois since he began serving a 30-month sentence for felony gun possession last year. He'd just come home from serving six months in a Florida jail for kicking a fan in the chest. Going back to life behind bars was an unfortunate outcome for someone who'd gone platinum just the year before.

A couple months after being sentenced, it was revealed that Gates would be up for parole in June 2018. Obviously, speculation that the date was being moved up by quite a bit began circling the web. Now, we know he's actually set to be released exactly on the Jan. 10 date the document indicated. XXL has also reached out to Gates' record label, Atlantic Records, for comment.
