Following the untimely death of Lil Peep as the result of an accidental overdose, the Drug Enforcement Administration has now launched an investigation into the rapper's death.

According to a report from TMZ, officials are looking at a series of texts and Twitter messages sent from a woman named Mariah Bons, who saw the rapper before he passed away. In one message, Bons tells a group of people in a Twitter chat: "Gbc [Lil Peep] high af because of me and my friend lol."

The "Gbc" in Bons' message most likely refers to GothBoiClique, a collective of rappers featuring Lil Peep, Lil Tracy, Wicca Phase and Yung Bruh. The group gets a shoutout in Peep's song, "Benz Truck."

In another message, Bons says the rapper was "passed the fuck out" and "wouldn't wake up" when she tried to get him to talk to her brother. Instead, Bons says she had her brother talk to rapper Mackned. Responding to her message, another woman said, "strange when peep sleep he wakes up easy eh."

Last week, the Pima County Medical Examiner in Arizona found Lil Peep's cause of death came from the "combined toxic effects of fentanyl and alprazolam." Alprazolam is the generic name for Xanax. Along with the fentanyl and Xanax, the rapper also had marijuana, cocaine and the painkiller Tramadol in his blood. Peep's urine also tested positive for Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone (Dilaudid), Oxycodone and Oxymorphone.

Shortly after the rapper's death, his brother called it an accident. “We [the family] have heard there was some sort of substance he did not expect to be involved in the substance he was taking,” he said. “He thought he could take what he did, but he had been given something and he didn’t realize what it was.”
