Meek Mill’s Lawyer Says Judge Has Grudge Against Rapper

Despite the fact that prosecutors didn't recommend Meek Mill face any prison time for violating his probation, the Philadelphia rapper was sentenced to two to four years in prison on Monday (Nov. 6). While many have implied that a racist justice system was to blame for Meek's seemingly harsh sentence, the rapper's lawyer believes there could be something more personal at work.

Speaking with the folks at TMZ, Meek's attorney Joe Tacopina claimed the judge, who's dealt with Meek's cases dating back to 2008, has a personal vendetta against the rapper. Tacopina says Meek and the judge are from the same part of Philly and they have mutual acquaintances.

Even more interestingly, Tacopina believes the judge's potentially perceived beef with Meek stems from the rapper's apparent refusal to create a remake of Philly R&B group Boyz II Men's "On Bended Knee" and give her a shoutout. When she made the "request" in a chambers meeting last year, Meek laughed it off because he thought she was kidding. According to Tacopina, the judge then said she wasn't. When Meek allegedly refused to go through with it, the judge replied, "Okay, suit yourself."

Almost no one saw Meek's prison sentence coming, and now, people from all corners of the rap world have reacted to the judge's decision. One of them was JAY-Z.

"The sentence handed down by the Judge -- against the recommendation of the Assistant District Attorney and Probation Officer -- is unjust and heavy handed," Hov wrote in a Facebook post. "We will always stand by and support Meek Mill, both as he attempts to right this wrongful sentence and then in returning to his musical career."
