Z-Ro may have been exonerated for the alleged assault of his ex-girlfriend Just Brittany, but the rapper isn't in the clear just yet.

According to a report from TMZ, the district attorney is refiling a misdemeanor assault charge against the Houston rapper. The attorney charged Z-Ro with assault on a family member, a Class A misdemeanor. If convicted, he now faces up to a year in jail.

Z-Ro's attorney, Charles Adams, says he is shocked by the charge because the grand jury didn't feel the rapper should have been changed with a felony or misdemeanor. Adams said, "I have to assume this is a result of the media grandstanding of [Brittany's] California counsel and we will continue to vigorously defend him in criminal and civil court.

The No Love Boulevard artist was arrested on July 26, after police received a report from Brittany, accusing Z-Ro of beating her. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Brittany reported the incident to Harris County police and claimed the incident happened in April. Brittany also played audio of the alleged attack for the police but gave no reason as to why she waited to report the incident.

Z-Ro called the claims of abuse a publicity stunt, citing an Instagram picture of Brittany that was supposedly taken hours after the alleged incident. The rapper also claimed the timing of Brittany's report happened to coincide with the airing of a reality TV show she was starring in.
