Ten years ago, Blu & Exile dropped Below The Heavens, a project that proved to be an underground West Coast boom bap album for the ages. Now, the rapper-producer duo unveil "Constellations," a track from their forthcoming Below The Heavens prequel album, In the Beginning: Before The Heavens.

The new track finds the typically poetic Blu at his best, weaving together verses about perserverance and hope as he flows over a bouncy, organ-fueled, Exile-produced beat. This is just one of the offerings left on the cutting room floor during recording sessions for Below The Heavens, which saw Blu & Exile create 40 songs together. Now, the tracks that didn't make the final cut will land on In the Beginning: Before The Heavens.

“We planted the seeds of creativity and grew about 40 plants,” Exile says of In the Beginning: Before The Heavens. “We picked the ones that we thought were the best for an album, but that didn’t mean that the other flowers weren’t beautiful. I’m super happy to re-release [In The Beginning] to people and have it actually get some attention that it definitely deserves. It’s amazing.”

You can pre-order In the Beginning: Before The Heavens on BandCamp, and you can pre-order a physical copy on Fat Beats. The project officially drops on Oct. 20. Blu & Exile are currently in the midst of their Below The Heavens 10th anniversary tour. Check out the dates for it below and listen to "Constellations" beneath that.
