On Sun., Aug. 27, the lauded and applauded artists in the music world will converge upon the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, with the likes of Kodak Black, Young M.A, SZA, Noah Cyrus, Julia Michaels and Khalid being nominated for Best New Artist. The thing is, only one of them can take home that trophy, and this year, MTV is teaming up with Taco Bell to once again put that weighty choice in the hands of fans everywhere.

Reintroducing the fan vote, MTV and Taco Bell are making the process of voting for Best New Artist easier and more engaging than ever before with a newly invented Twitter bot. Beginning on Friday (Aug. 18), fans can use an interactive, anxiety-free Direct Message voting format on Twitter to vote for the artist they feel deserves to win the award. In addition, voters can share their top selection with their Twitter followers just moments later.

Fans will have the opportunity to cast their votes all the way until Sun., Aug. 27, at which point the top two contenders will be announced at the MTV VMAs pre-show. From that point on, fans can vote for their choice for Best New Artist when voting resumes as the 2017 VMTV MAs are broadcast. Whomever tallies the most votes by the time the category for Best New Artist pops up will be declared the winner.

As you can see from the list of nominees, hip-hop carries a strong presence in the Best New Artist crop. First off, there's Kodak, whose album Painting Pictures was named one of XXL's best 25 projects of 2017 so far. Then there's Young M.A, who carried over her 2016 success into 2017 with the release of her project, Herstory.

To cast your vote for Best New Artist, head to Twitter right here. The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards is all set to air on MTV on Sun., Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. EST.
