Update (July 10, 12:56 p.m. EST):

It appears as though Prodigy's mural is now being permanently painted over in black. See footage below.

Original Story:

For the second time in less than a week, a mural of Prodigy, a tribute to the late rapper artists Jeff Henriquez and Eli Lazare finished painting a short while ago, has been defaced. See an image of the mural in its current condition below.

White paint was used to alter the painting the first time around. This time, red paint was used to deface the mural, which is plastered on the side of Urban Upbound’s building at 13th Street and 40th Avenue, near Queensbridge Housing in Queens, New York City.

Henriquez and Lazare had just finished repainting their defaced mural this past Sunday (July 9), only to have it defaced once again less than 24 hours later. This has to be a frustrating experience for them, and for fans of the late great P.

Prodigy died at the age of 42 on June 20. With his ferocious honesty and vivid street imagery, P's presence has always meant a lot to the rap community, which has paid plenty of homage to the rap legend in the few weeks following his death. There's no telling when the Prodigy mural will be re-painted once again, but we hope its repaired soon.
