Childish Gambino’s ‘Awaken, My Love!’ Vinyl Comes With a Virtual Reality Experience

Childish Gambino's Awaken, My Love! is headed to vinyl, now, with a virtual reality twist. The forthcoming release will be accompanied by a free VR headset and a free app, along instructions to give users access to the PHAROS Experience.

The PHAROS Experience will be facilitated by the PHAROS app, which Gambino updated to include virtual reality last fall. The virtual reality experience was described as “an immersive experience of ‘Me and your Momma’ live from Pharos created in collaboration with Microsoft.”

Notice they said, "experience of 'Me and your Momma'" instead of "a performance of." That's where the virtual reality component comes into play. The app enables you do see a 360 degree angle of Gambino's PHAROS concert at Joshua Tree last September. Maybe we'll get to see more of the performance?

The Funkadelic-inspired Awaken, My Love! gave Gambino his most critically acclaimed project to date, while also serving as a sort of crowning moment for what was an incredibly successful 2016. In case you didn't know, he also starred in his own TV show.

The new Awaken, My Love! vinyl and the accompanying VR goggles will be released on May 19, so get ready to enjoy the album—specifically the parts meshed with the PHAROS experience–in a way you never have before.
