Longtime fans of J Dilla have been waiting for more posthumous releases from the late producer, and now their patience is paying off. The legendary hip-hop hitmaker, who died of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura in 2006, has released his latest project, Motor City, through his mother, Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey.

The new project, which contains 19 new rare and unreleased instrumental tracks from the late producer, was hand-selected and sequenced by Ma Dukes, and created to be a "letter" to her son. The packaging for the project includes a limited-edition mailing envelope with a handwritten message from his mother to the Detroit native inside of it. There is also an additional bonus track, which is an exclusive 29-minute mix of Motor City by Dilla’s close friend J Rocc, who founded the Beat Junkies.

Fans can also enjoy a Dilla blend on SoundCloud, which features J Rocc throwing a Motor City beat over a 2000s-era a cappella from the historic producer. On top of the project's release, lifestyle brand Shinola is hosting free release parties on Saturday (April 22) at their retail locations across the country. While New York attendees can hear live sets from Lord Finesse and Boogie Blind, while Los Angeles fans will feature a set from J Rocc. There will also be release parties taking place in Detroit, Washington D.C., Chicago, Miami and San Francisco.
