Last Friday (April 7), Joey Bada$$ finally gifted fans with his official sophomore album ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$. Now, the first week sales numbers for the album are in.

The set sold 51,000 total copies first week, bowing at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200, behind Chainsmokers, Drake, Ed Sheeran and Pentatonix. 28,000 of those units were traditional album sales. His 2015 debut album B4.DA.$$ sold 58,000 units first week for comparison.

In our new interview with Joey, he spoke about the inspiration behind his new LP. “All of the unfortunate events that’s been going on over the last couple of years, specifically the ones that’s been like, you know, in the media a lot. Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Freddie Gray, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile,” Joey explains. “For me—like, you know, as a young Black man, you know, as a hip-hop artist—I feel really affected by these things when it happens, but I also feel really connected. I feel really close to it. I almost feel like, you know, it could happen to me.”
