Is the release of a new Kendrick Lamar album imminent? That's the question thousands of fans asked themselves when the To Pimp a Butterfly artist uploaded an image of a black canvas with the roman numerals "IV" onto his Instagram earlier today (March 23). You can see the post for yourself below.

He didn't include any details, but for K. Dot fans, it's almost impossible to miss the fact that his next album would technically be his fourth LP. It's hard to mark that up as a coincidence, and if you think Kendrick leaving the post without a caption was meant to make this "announcement" more dramatic, we can't blame you.

Alchemist also tweeted the same Roman numerals early this morning, leading many to believe he may have production on the LP.

It's been a little over a year since Kendrick dropped untitled. unmastered., but that, while definitely dope in its own right, was actually just a collection of tracks left on the cutting room floor of the recording sessions for To Pimp a Butterfly. Recently, the good kid, m.A.A.d city artist sat down with the folks at T Magazine to discuss his next album, a project he described as being "very urgent."

“I think now, how wayward things have gone within the past few months, my focus is ultimately going back to my community and the other communities around the world where they’re doing the groundwork,” he said during the interview.

He continued, “To Pimp a Butterfly was addressing the problem. I’m in a space now where I’m not addressing the problem anymore. We’re in a time where we exclude one major component out of this whole thing called life: God. Nobody speaks on it because it’s almost in conflict with what’s going on in the world when you talk about politics and government and the system.”

We have no idea when K. Dot's new project is coming, but if his IG post is any indication, it could be coming sooner than you think.
