Today, March 13, is the birthday of Bay Area rapper Kamaiyah.

The 26-year-old West Coast native has spent the last year taking hip-hop by storm on her own terms. Kamaiyah's debut project A Good Night in the Ghetto dropped last March and breathed fresh air into rap thanks to its slapping beats and the rapper's unapologetic, honest lyrics. Whether she was reminiscing about her come-up or setting the mood for a party, Good Night was a breakout success for the MC that propelled her into rap's spotlight and was hailed as one of the best hip-hop projects of 2016.

Thanks to her personality, bravado and undeniable delivery, Kamaiyah gained co-signs from fellow rappers like Drake, E-40, G-Eazy and YG. YG specifically took Ill Yaya under his wing and took her on G-Eazy and Logic's Endless Summer tour during the Summer 2016.

"Everything I’m doing, there’s nothing like me out there. I feel like I’m going be the next female 'it' artist of this decade. Without a doubt, I know I’m the next superstar,” said Kamaiyah when she spoke to XXL for The Break.

In 2017, the female phenom inked a deal with Interscope Records, was chosen as a XXL Freshman, was featured on YG's platinum single "Why You Always Hatin?" and dropped her EP Before I Wake. In other words, Kamaiyah had plenty to celebrate last year. Be on the lookout for what Yaya has planned next!

Happy Birthday, Kamaiyah!
