Macklemore and Ryan Lewis failed to submit their album,This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, for Grammy consideration, the Associated Press reports.

Though the album, released in February 2016, did not do quite the same numbers as their previous effort, The Heist, the lead single "Downtown" peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum six months after it dropped.

There is not yet a confirmed reason as to why the two failed to submit, but they played Grammy disruptors in 2014, when The Heist won Best Rap Album, beating Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d. city and Drake's Nothing Was the Same. After the ceremony, Macklemore shared a text conversation he had with Lamar, saying he felt the Compton rapper was robbed. "I wanted you to win. You should have," Macklemore wrote.

He would say later that year he felt he betrayed Kendrick's trust in posting the convo and addressed some of those feelings on the new album, the title in and of itself a reference to the incident and aftermath.

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards will air this Sun., Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. EST. Best Rap Album this year will go to either Chance The Rapper, De La Soul, DJ Khaled, Drake, ScHoolboy Q or Kanye West.
