Kanye West Criticized by Fashion Week Organizers for Scheduling Yeezy Season 5 Show

Kanye West has reportedly reached out to Steven Kolb, president and CEO of the CFDA, to fix the problem and reschedule his Yeezy Season 5 show at 3 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. at the same venue, Pier 59.

“[Kanye] explained that once he realized Marchesa was in the time slot, he immediately looked at alternative options,” said Kolb in a statement. “The CFDA appreciates Kanye’s outreach and effort, and we look forward to working with him far in advance to integrate Yeezy into the schedule in seasons to come.”

It seems Kanye West didn't go through the proper channels to book his Yeezy Season 5 fashion show. As a result, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), which schedule New York Fashion Week, are not pleased at all.

On Jan. 31, the publication Fashionista announced the Yeezy Season 5 show will take place during New York Fashion Week at 5 p.m. EST on Feb. 15 at Pier 59 Studios. However, that time slot was apparently already reserved for the clothing brand Marchesa. The Life of Pablo rapper didn't consult the CFDA about scheduling his show at the same time as Marchesa.

Steven Kolb, president and chief executive officer of the CFDA, is not happy about the situation. He tells the publication WWD, “Once again, CFDA was not approached or consulted about the possibility of Kanye West showing on the official New York Fashion Week schedule. As the scheduler of the week, the CFDA works with more than 300 brands to identify appropriate times for them to show their collections and avoid scheduling conflicts. Not going through the proper channels is disruptive to the whole week and unfair to designers who have secured spots through the formal procedure."

Kolb continues, "This bad behavior is not acceptable to the CFDA and should not be tolerated by the industry. Because of this, the CFDA will not list Kanye West on the official schedule. However, the CFDA is more than willing to work with Kanye on securing an available time slot.”
