When a rapper decides to leave a group and go solo, the move is always risky. However, this wasn't the case for Big Boi, one-half of the iconic ATL rap duo OutKast. Heck, their diamond-selling opus, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, was the most passive aggressive breakup ever to be packaged as a group album. It wasn't until 2010, though--four years after OutKast's final album and 16 years after their debut--that Big Boi released Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, his official solo debut album.

It was always (optically) understood that Big Boi was the opposite of 3 Stacks' eccentric rock star appeal. But once his solo music was digested, it was refreshingly obvious that Big Boi possessed much of the oddball uniqueness that made OutKast so famous in the first place. That included wacky video treatments and an unabashed sense of musical risk that carried over into his solo endeavors. He's since released a second LP, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, and upped his cool factor with the edgy, psychedelic collaborative project Big Grams with New-York based electro-rock duo Phantogram.

A father of three, husband, registered pitbull breeder, and philanthropist, Big Boi shows no signs of slowing down. Whether it's collaborations with Chicago-based pet grooming guru Bobbi Panter on a line of natural dog shampoos, an appearance on Fox's Star or a new Big Grams project, his brand is stronger than ever.

Celebrate the musical greatness of Big Boi with 20 of his best solo tracks -- his work on Speakerboxx included but sorry, no Purple Ribbon All-Stars. Salute to Daddy Fat Stax, a.k.a. General Patton.
