Congratulations are in order for Joey Bada$$. The Pro Era rapper has officially earned his first gold plaque for the track "Devastated."

The record was certified gold by the RIAA on Jan. 6. The 1999 rapper certainly turned some heads with “Devastated,” which was a 180-degree turn from his typical, boom-bap sound.

He addressed certain fans’ confusion about the change of pace in a radio interview in September, saying, “You could have every song in [an artist’s] catalogue. There [would still be] about 50 songs you’ve never heard from that man... It’s just what I’ve exposed the world to is a certain type of sound, or direction of music. That’s why when I do things that’s not there, people are confused. They’re like ‘What’s goin’ on? That’s not Joey. This is not the Joey that I know.’”

"Devastated" is clearly a fan favorite at this point, despite the switch-up in sound. No doubt that Bada$$ is relieved that his risk paid off in a gold plaque.

In other Joey-related news, the 21-year-old Brooklyn MC is slated to perform at Yams Day 2017 at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 18. Other acts will include A$AP Rocky, Ferg, Danny Brown, Top Dawg Entertainment, Lil Uzi Vert, Flatbush Zombies, Playboi Carti, Cam’ron, Kirk Knight, Retch, T-Pain and Sha Hef.

In case you missed it, check out Joey and CJ Fly freestyle on Statik Selektah's radio show in mid-December. Oh, and Joey says he's dropping new music soon. Like, next week soon.
