Prodigy’s ‘Commissary Kitchen’ Book Banned in California Prisons

Prodigy has added to his author resume with his new book, Commissary Kitchen: My Infamous Prison Cookbook, currently being read by inmates and free men, alike. But, prisoners in California will not be able to partake in its recipes, as it has been banned by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

According to TMZ, the book was rejected in Cali because of a recipe for beer. In a letter obtained by the site, the D.O.C.R. spells out a restriction of "inmate manufactured alcohol."

Prodigy's book, which was co-authored by journalist Kathy Iandoli, came out in October and features dozens of custom correctional facility cuisine ideas.

In the book, the H.N.I.C. reveals that the venture was inspired by his need to eat healthy while in prison. P suffers from sickle cell anemia. “I couldn’t afford to get sick in prison,” he writes. “My sickle cell is no joke, so I couldn’t eat poorly or not exercise. And everything in jail is designed to do the exact opposite.”

As well as a cookbook, the Mobb Deep member hopes the read will “give people more of an understanding of the kind of people that are locked up in jail." He adds, “You have people there from all walks of life: people who made mistakes and have to deal with the consequences, mothers and fathers. You wouldn’t expect them to be behind bars.”
