Boosie BadAzz Promotes Diabetes Awareness at Dallas School

Boosie BadAzz, Young Dolph and more paid Billy Earl Dade Middle School in Southern Dallas a surprise visit recently to raise diabetes awareness. Boosie has been battling the disease for at least ten years, sharing his diagnosis in 2006 after releasing Bad Azz. The rapper partnered with groups like Endocrinology Associates of Southwest Dallas in donating a large supply of diabetes test kits to students across the Dallas Independent School District.

“Basically, we are trying to encourage people with diabetes to eat right, you know, live better,” Boosie says in the above news report, conducted by WFAA ABC 8. "When I came home, I had kids coming up to me like 'I got diabetes and you made me strong when I’m weak.'"

According to Dallas ISD, 183 children in the district are under care for Type 1 Diabetes, while 123 students receive in-school care for Type 2 Diabetes. “We know that people lack supplies because of funding and insurance reasons,” Jazmine Fortenberry of the Endocrinology Associates of Southwest Dallas said. “So we know it’s very important.”

Eighth-grader Jacqueline Badillo was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago and said that meeting with Boosie was a special moment, knowing there are celebrities facing the challenges of the disease and willing to talk about personal health issues is positive.
