The 2016 presidential election brought together the unlikely pair of Killer Mike and Bernie Sanders. Mike was a staunch supporter of Sanders, speaking at rallies and conducting interviews with the Democratic candidate. But in a new interview with GQ, Sanders admitted to having trepidation about Mike due to the rapper's stage name.

"The name got me a little bit nervous," Sanders said. "But Killer Mike has never killed anybody. It’s just, he's a killer rapper."

Sanders called Mike an "extremely bright guy," something hip-hop outsiders quickly learned during the presidential campaign. The Run the Jewels member has been a constant source of insight, which he most recently doled out on The Real. The veteran MC told people to not give up on their fight in the wake of Donald Trump's election victory.

"This is potentially the grandest Republic to have ever existed,” he said. “And it can keep existing if we realize a Republic, like a human body, grows and it transforms and it becomes something else. So what you guys have to do is stay vigilant about making sure this country’s progressing. We’re definitely going to see a female president in our lifetime.”

Back on the music front, Killer Mike and El-P are currently putting the finishing touches on their Run the Jewels 3 album. The duo will support the much anticipated LP by hitting the road for the Run the World Tour.
