Shawty Lo's impact on the city of Atlanta is showing through as there is a petition that has been started that calls for an ATL roadway to be named after the beloved West Side MC who was born Carlos Walker.

The petition, created on Change.Org, calls for Atlanta's Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway (formerly known as Bankhead Highway) to be renamed in honor of the late rapper who grew up and made his name on the rough and tumble section West Side parkway/street.

Lo was a native of the notorious (now defunct) Bowen Homes housing project on DLH Parkway and also positioned his D4L studio on the infamous street.

The description of the petition reads in part, "What better way to honor this extraordinary man then to rename the street in which he grew up on and a community that he never left behind even after his success! Bankhead Hwy aka Donald Lee Hollowell is a thing of the past. Sign the petition as we welcome the new Atlanta street name Carlos R. Walker Pkwy."

At the time of publication, the petition has reached slightly more than half of its goal of 5,0000 signatures.

Lo was killed in a car accident shortly after leaving the Blue Flame Lounge strip club around 2 a.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 21). The crash that killed the rapper and injured two passengers occurred on the I-285 southbound ramp to Cascade Road. Lo’s 2016 Audi crashed over a guardrail, hitting several trees and catching fire at the Cascade Road exit on the southbound I-285. Authorities say that Lo died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle, with two others taken to the hospital.

Shawty Lo’s funeral services took place Saturday (Oct. 1) at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Atlanta. But not before he made one final trip to the Flame. The night before his burial, the hearse carrying his body was spotted posted up outside the famous strip club along with a caravan of cars.
