Lil Wayne Breaks Elvis Presley’s Billboard Hot 100 Record: Today in Hip-Hop

2012: Lil Wayne officially surpassed Elvis Presley's all-time Billboard Hot 100 mark on Sept. 27, 2012. Not a bad birthday present at all. Weezy topped the King of Rock & Roll with the most Hot 100 appearances by any solo artist. When the Billboard charts orginally launched in 1958 from 2012, Presley had a total of 108 entries to enter the charts as a soloist or featured artist. Weezy passed Presley's longstanding record with 109 entries when The Game's "Celebration," which Wayne is featured on, entered the Hot 100 at No. 82 that day.

Billboard reports that of those 109 Hot 100 entries, Weezy was lead artist on 42 of them. His biggest hits as of 2012 had included "Go DJ," "Fireman," "Mrs. Officer," and "A Milli." Up until that point in his career, Lil Wayne had enjoyed two No. 1 singles, 2008's "Lollipop" and 2009's "Down" featuring then-Young Money singer Jay Sean. While the publication did point out that many of Presley's biggest hits, "Hound Dog" and "Heartbreak Hotel," had been hits before the charts were even launched in 1958, Wayne's record-breaking slew of hits had solidifed him not only as a modern day hip-hop icon, but a household name outside of the rap world.
