In February of this year, a Florida rapper named Lajan Slim released a song called "Haitians" that has been picking up steam for the last couple months.

Then a few weeks ago, Def Jam quietly re-released the single on digital services like iTunes and Spotify, and they had good reason – they apparently just signed him. You can hear Pusha T, the president of G.O.O.D. and the man responsible for signing new acts to G.O.O.D. Music, announce as much above.

The 22-year-old Broward County native was supposed to drop a mixtape called EBT last year, but it never surfaced. Patience can be key, though, and he must have considered it essential, because now that he's signed and "Haitians" is gaining steam, that tape is just weeks away.

Back in July, we spoke to Lajan for The Break. He told us he engineers his own stuff and though "Haitians" is caching on, his personal favorite song is "Quik Pik" because "it’s really my story of where I came from.”

Hear a couple more of his songs below, and if you don't already know, keep your eye on what's happening down in Florida. Something's in the water.
