Killer Mike has been honored by the city of Atlanta. The residents of his hometown selected "Driller Mike" as the name of an $11.6 million tunnel-boring machine.

Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management asked residents to name the 400-foot-long tunnel-boring machine that will enable the city to store a month's supply of water underground. "Driller Mike" won against such competition as "Peach Beast" and "Scarlett."

Killer Mike was happy to receive this unique accolade. The "That's Life" rapper expressed his gratitude in a conversation with Associated Press.

"Before I die, I want a street named after me, maybe Michael Render Way," Killer Mike said. "But this is a great midlife goal. This is truly an honor."

Killer Mike initially laughed off the idea of the machine being named after him. But now that it is a reality, he is pleased to have his moniker associated with something so important to his city.

"It was the funniest thing in the world to me. I didn't take it seriously because I'm a rapper," Killer Mike said. "Cities don't associate themselves with rappers. But I'm a business owner, a dad, an active member of politics in Atlanta, so I was honestly honored that people in Atlanta saw fit to name something after me."

In more somber news, Killer Mike was one of the many rappers who spoke out following the death of an unarmed Black man named Terence Crutcher. Mike said Betty Shelby, the cop who shot and killed Crutcher, should be convicted of murder instead of receiving paid administrative leave.
