The Bad Boy Family Reunion tour was in Washington D.C. Thursday night (Sept. 22) and Diddy opened up his wallet in a major way, gifting $1 million to Howard University for students unable to pay off their financial aid. As the New York Daily News reports, the gesture was a complete surprise, with a gift reported beforehand, but the size and nature of the donation completely unknown until Diddy made the announcement.

Puff spoke at the D.C. school in 2014, delivering an inspiring commencement speech where he “shared his personal journey and encouraged students to be fearless, to dream, to fully embrace their inner power as well as endure to the finish line despite obstacles,” a University rep said. Puff as well was enrolled at Howard, but dropped out in 1990 after two years, and was awarded an honorary degree before his 2014 speech.

The donation is just the latest in a long line of charitable moves made by rappers recently, with 2 Chainz, Big Sean and The Game all in the giving spirit. Just this month, Diddy topped Forbes' list of Hip-Hop Cash Kings, hauling in a reported $62 million thanks to his liquor and music brands. Jay Z finished second earning $52 million, with Dr. Dre, Drake and Wiz Khalifa rounding out the top five.
