2016 XXL Freshman Dave East delivers his highly anticipated debut album, Kairi Chanel. The 15-track project, named after East's six-month-old daughter, contains features from Beanie Sigel, Cam'ron, Fabolous and more.

The newest addition to Def Jam's roster possesses some of the game's strongest lyricism, and his work ethic is just as evident. In addition to the aforementioned names, the Nas-affiliated, Harlem rapper also reached out to artists including The Game, 2 Chainz and Sevyn Streeter for Kairi Chanel.

The Mass Appeal MC is having quite the year. In June, he made the coveted XXL Freshman list and performed at the annual XXL Freshman show in Times Square, NYC. In his interview, East discussed how important his neighborhood was in shaping who he is as a person. “To make it up out of there is really a task itself," he says. "A lot of creativity coming from the east side of Harlem. It really built my character and who I am.”

The 28-year-old of Bajan and Dominican descent spent most of his youth in Harlem and Queensbridge, New York City. He then moved to Silver Spring, Maryland to attend Springbrook High School, one of the best public schools for basketball in the DMV. The album cover depicts some highlights of East's playing career, along with a photo of the Apollo Theater, a photo of East and Nas, and a photo of some of East's family members.

On Power 105's Breakfast Club, East explained that he's still linked to Mass Appeal, even though he just signed with Def Jam. “It wasn’t the average me just signing to a major. I’m actually partners with them,” he says. “Mass Appeal is still the family. Nas is still going to be able to executive produce my album. It was a step forward for me."
