Earlier this week (Aug. 1), Baltimore police shot and killed 23-year-old Korryn Gaines after entering her apartment to find her seated on the floor, her 5-year-old son in one arm and a shotgun in the other. Police had arrived at the apartment to serve warrants to Gaines and a male resident living there, and obtained a key after 10 minutes of knocking went unanswered. Gaines recorded her standoff with police, and in an Instagram video posted Wednesday, Kevin Gates, who has saluted those in his hometown of Baton Rogue for standing up to police, commended the stance taken by Gaines.

"Oh my god. I love this lady," he says after recounting the incident. "I’m going to get this lady’s face tattooed on me. Call her crazy, call her what you want to call her. She stood for something. she died for what she believed in. I love you with all my heart. Niggas call you what they want to to call you, I call you queen. May peace and blessings be upon you in this life and in the hereafter." In the video's caption, Gates wrote, "you did what I know my wife would've did."

Gates has been vocal in his recent weeks on the subjects of Black Lives Matter, saying in July that he thinks black-on-black crime undermines the movement.
