DMX, N.O.R.E., Jadakiss and More Rock the Apollo Theater in New York City

Droves of fans came through to the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York yesterday night (Aug. 6) to watch Jim Jones, N.O.R.E, Capone, Jadakiss , Styles P and DMX perform.

Just as fans took their seats, Jim Jones began warming up the crowd, performing all fan favorites like “G’s Up,” “Summer Wit Miami,” “Blow Your Smoke” and “Byrd Gang Money.” While the crowd was thoroughly enjoying the mash up, it wasn’t until the instrumental to Ron Browz’s “Pop Champagne” did the audience go nuts. Before Jimmy exited the stage, he had a few words of encouragement for his people.

“Let’s not wait for the cops to kill us for us to stop killing each other,” he said. “All lives matter.” Before his grand exit, the Dipset member cued the DJ to drop “We Fly High (Ballin),” causing pandemonium throughout the Apollo.

After a brief intermission with DJ Scram Jones, N.O.R.E. appeared on stage out of nowhere and got right to it. Noreaga opened his set with The Neptunes-produced “Grimey.” He even did his own verse to The Clipse’s “Grindin.” After a brief pause the Queens, New York native reassured to the crowd that tonight was going to be a special night. N.O.R.E claimed to have seen DMX outside on the fire escape just before he took the stage and that the back door entrance to the theatre was so hectic a few of the performers couldn’t get in. So that posed the question, did DMX climb the fire escape to get into his own concert?

N.O.R.E. went on the perform his smash hits like “Thugged Out” and “T.O.N.Y.” in which he brought Capone on stage to join him. Of course he couldn’t leave without performing the 2002 party anthem “Nothin’.” Only half way in the entire show, the concert had already tapped heavily into everyone’s childhood.

Jadakiss touched down next, opening his performance with “Jason.” He navigated through records like “Where I’m From” and “Wild Out” before bringing out his brother in rhyme, Styles P. Styles came out to “I Come Thru” before giving us a mini D-Block reunion while performing his hits like “Good Times.” S.P. The Ghost and ‘Kiss swayed the crowd to join in on "Might D-Block," which transitioned to Jada performing “Knock Yourself Out.” Finally, Jadakiss and P signed off with “We Gonna Make It” leaving the crowd in high spirits before DMX took the stage.

Before the crowd could see X, they could hear him growling. There was a sea of Ruff Ryders apparel that took over the stage and the audience alike. DMX came out to “They Don’t Know,” erupting the crowd into a frenzy. He moved from “Ruff Ryders' Anthem” to “Where My Dogs At” before he took a second to spread a little love and positivity to the people

“No matter how fucked up a situation is, you always get something good out of it,” he said. He continued with a statement that seemed to resonate very heavily with the crowd, “Miracles only happen on a platform of tragedy.”

Darkman X took us to church then performed “How's It Goin' Down” and “What These Bitches.” With the amount of energy DMX gave the audience, you would’ve thought that he was fresh off of the 1999’s infamous Hard Knock Life tour. DMX didn’t miss a beat during the entire performance. He even took a brief intermission to do 50 push-ups straight while on stage. The energy was amazing. Nostalgia was in the air.—Jade Foxx
