DJ Official is dead at the age of 39. The Grammy Award-winning producer worked with Lecrae before retiring in 2014 due to health problems.

Official suffered from a rare form of bone marrow cancer, which also affected his kidneys. In addition, he had emphysema, which lowered his lung function to just 13 percent. On July 30, Official had double lung transplant surgery, which left him in critical condition.

The Bronx native was a pioneer in the Christian hip-hop movement, and his 2009 album Entermission was well-received by both fans and critics alike.

Lecrae took to Twitter on Sunday (Aug. 14) to pay tribute to his friend and collaborator. He wrote, "I know you deejaying on the other side. See you soon." He continued, typing, "We talked everyday for the last 4 years. The squad won't be the same. I know you're glad to be with Jesus."

If you want to read more about Lecrae, you can check out his recent interview with XXL, in which he discusses his new book, upcoming music and more. Lecrae says, "You probably hear a single definitely before the end of the year. As far as an album is concerned, I’m ’bout to go underground. I’m just working. I’ve been working with a lot of great dudes. I’ve been working with Vinylz, working with Hit-Boy and it’s been real good. Just catch a vibe and make something really, really dope."
