On Monday night (July 11), VH1 paid tribute to some of hip-hop's most important female figures, Lil Kim, the Queen Bee, among them. Kim's records go back 20 years, her debut album Hard Core released in November 1996, and VH1's Hip-Hop Honors tapped Teyana Taylor, Lil Mama, The LOX and French Montana to chronicle the many waves she made in her Bad Boy days.

Opening the tribute performance was fellow Brooklynite Lil Mama dressed in all pink and DeJ Loaf performing "Crush On You." Teyana Taylor was up next, sporting the leopard print bikini and sheer red top made famous by Kim during the release of Hard Core. Taylor even hits Kim's signature crouch pose while performing "No Time" with French Montana. Taylor reemerges during the medley's third and final song, "All About the Benjamins," which she performs with Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch while donning a platinum blonde wig. The LOX even pitched in on the lyric "Puffy hold me down, baby" goes to show the power of nostalgia and a proper musical tribute.

Check out the performances in the video above, where Queen Latifah and the other honoree's can't help but rap along to many of Kim's iconic verses, though portions of her "All About the Benjamins" verse are expectedly edited for TV. Making matters all the more sweet, yesterday was Lil Kim's birthday as well. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Kim was showered with it Monday night.
