ASAP Rocky has been catching some flack this week after a 2015 interview with Time Out was rediscovered, with the Harlem rapper saying, "So every time something happens because I’m black I gotta stand up? What the fuck am I, Al Sharpton now? I’m A$AP Rocky. I did not sign up to be no political activist.” He clarified some of what he meant in since deleted tweets, writing, "“ALL THIS SOCIAL INJUSTICE MAKES ME FUKIN SICK, THO IM STILL NO POLITICIAN," but paid a visit to The Breakfast Club recently to further explain himself.

"That whole interview was taken out of context as far as what I said. I feel terrible as a black man, as an American," he says in the above interview. "I just don’t understand how they keep saying a dark skinned nigga don’t like black people." He goes on to say that he feels that he was misquoted and misspoke in response to the question and wants to speak up now.

"You got your modern rappers, like your favorite rappers today, you don’t always hear their content being about the political shit going on," he says. "Why put me on a pedestal for that, especially when I’m not asking for that? I want to make music, I want to inspire, I want to promote peace. Cause at a time like this, I don’t have all the answers. I’m not trying to run for congress. I want to promote prosperity, especially for black people."

Rocky as well explained that he's often abroad or in markets where he doesn't feel as close to some of the injustices taking place but noted that after returning from London, "you can feel the energy, you can feel the tension, you can feel the separation. The shit is whack."
