Troy Ave is dealing with some serious charges in light of his role in the infamous shooting at New York's Irving Plaza. Still, that is not stopping him from putting out some new music. The Brooklyn rapper returns with a new project titled Free Troy Ave as promised earlier today (June 6).

The new mixtape features a few interludes where Troy Ave speaks over the phone to tell his side of the story. The rapper stresses that he is innocent and that the truth will come to light. The mixtape arrives a few days after Troy Ave's lawyer, Scott Leemon, asked the public for help in defending his client.

"We’re going to ask anyone who was there, anyone who has any information or anyone who knows someone who was in that VIP room that night — we have set up a special e-mail address," Leemon said in an interview with Fox 5's Lisa Evers. "We know some people have problems talking to and working with NYPD — help us. Help me defend Troy.”

Troy Ave's lawyer expressed concern with what he called misinformation. Scott Leemon was particularly troubled by the notion that Troy was the man who killed the rapper's own bodyguard, the sole casualty of the shooting.

"What troubles me most is the misinformation that is being sent out. NYPD knows Troy didn’t shoot himself. They know Troy didn’t shoot his bodyguard. That man died a hero," Leemon said. "And to imply anything — that Troy would actually hurt his lifelong friend — is absolutely insane and irresponsible.”
