2001: Rapper Shyne was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crimes of attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment in connection to a New York City nightclub shooting that took place in December 1999.

Back in 1999, Shyne was with his then-girlfriend, music executive and Bad Boy Records boss Puff Daddy and Puff's girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were all going to Club New York in NYC when a fight broke out inside the club. Jamal “Shyne” Barrow, who was born in Belize but grew up in Brooklyn, pulled a gun out and fired shots into the crowd. The incident left three people injured.

Though he maintained in his court case that he was acting in self-defense, the judge in the case convicted him of two counts of attempted murder and assault as well as reckless endangerment. The young rapper, who was only 22 years old at the time, was facing up to 25 years in prison. Barrow apologized for the victims effected by the nightclub shooting in the courtroom when he received his sentence. The Bad Boy/Def Jam signee broke down in the courtroom after hearing his fate.

Shyne would go on to serve nearly all of his sentence (he was not eligible for parole until eight years in), getting out of jail in 2009 and being deported to his homeland of Belize. While incarcerated, Shyne dropped his sophomore album, Godfather Buried Alive, in 2004, which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart.

Now that he's been deported to Belize indefinitely, Shyne's name has more historical relevance than ever. But none the less, the "Bad Boyz" rapper isn't forgotted among Bad Boy diehards. He even made an appearance at the Bad Boy Reunion shows in Brooklyn, NY via satellite to perform his biggest hit. The hip-hop world still hasn't forgotten about Shyne. In April of last year, Slick Rick made a point to visit Shyne in Belize.
