In an altogether unsurprising but nonetheless exciting development, Hamilton, the American history meets rap-inspired musical from the mind of Lin-Manuel Miranda, took home 11 Tony Awards Sunday night (June 12) including the top honor for Best Musical. After what has seemed like months of continuous praise, the musical raked in the awards at a ceremony that was tinged with sadness following the mass shooting that had taken place in Orlando earlier that morning.

"When senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised. Not one day,” Miranda said, while accepting the award for Best Original Score. “This show is proof that history remembers. We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger, we rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer."

The other nine awards won include Best Book of a Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, Best Performance in an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical, Best Performance in an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical, Best Costume Design in a Musical, Best Lighting Design in a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.

While Hamilton has roots in hip-hop, drawing lyrical inspiration from Mobb Deep and others, it wore its affiliation proudly Sunday night as Common introduced the cast before a performance, and afterward, Questlove recorded Miranda rapping along to Big Pun's "100%." Watch that after party moment below, with Miranda 100% worthy of all the accolades.
