Flying Lotus, esteemed producer, experimentalist and boundary pusher, hopped on Twitter today (June 15) to give a little pep talk to all the producers who feel under-appreciated.

"Very important to know your worth," he started before telling beatmakers everywhere not to kowtow to pressure from an artist, especially when the latter wants the former to make beats on the spot without also paying them on the spot.

"Lots of rappers genuinely think they doing us favors by fuckin w us," he continued, laughing at the audacity of the thought. "Hella rap artists are rape artists. Taking advantage of abilities thinking its a good look for us! Most my people behind the scenes is broke. Ain't no reason why the homies shouldn't be eating super well right now."

Then he turned his attention to another beat extraordinaire Metro Boomin, saying the Atlanta producer deserves more credit for making hit songs. "If u ask me. It's @MetroBoomin featuring @1future. He makes that shit what it is tbh."

A lot of what FlyLo is saying makes sense. Even in the aftermath of our 2016 Freshman cover, people want to see producers (new and old) get as much shine as the artists they make songs for. Shit, everybody knows a song starts with production, right?

It's also funny to see FlyLo say this now, when weeks ago XXL heard a story about something very similar happening in the studio with Chance The Rapper.

"So after [Flying Lotus played] all those beats, Chance is like, 'What do we need to do to get you to create something now?' And Flying Lotus was just like, 'Man, I’m not making shit right now," remembered one half of the duo who produced Chance's "No Problem."

"He didn’t say it like he was being mean, he just said, 'I gotta be in the bunker to make my music.' And it was like, 'Oh my God!' I’ve been killing myself in sessions for the past two years trying to make artist’s music on the spot and this was the answer I needed the whole time."
