The breakout star of 2016 is undoubtedly Desiigner. After releasing one of the biggest songs of the year, the 19-year-old rapper landed on the cover on the 2016 XXL Freshman Class cover. "To say that I’m a Freshman, it feels like I’m growing and it’s time to keep it going," said the G.O.O.D. Music artist to XXL.

After releasing “Panda” in December 2015, within two months Desiigner became one of the hottest young MCs in hip-hop. Soon after Desiigner and Kanye would meet, signed the lanky spitta to G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam Recordings and made the announcement in front of 20,000 people at the Yeezy Season 3 collection and album listening show at Madison Square Garden in New York in February. The young Brooklyn native was featured twice on Kanye’s new album, The Life of Pablo (“Freestyle 4″ and “Pt. 2”). Things literally only went up for Desiigner as his smash single became the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 in April.

With the Future comparisons fading away and more snippets of music coming out, Desiigner is gearing up to make his grand debut with a project of new music coming out this summer.

"I never had a job, I’ve never seen myself in a building with a boss," he says. "I’ve always seen myself as my own boss, doing my thing, being free, doing my music, being me.”

His energy, his charisma, his dancing, his melodies, Desiigner has the potential avoid the one-hit wonder label and become a star in hip-hop. His 2016 XXL Freshman freestyle shows that the talent is there, fans are just waiting now to see it.
