On "Summer Sixteen," Drake rapped "All you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little," what was an obvious reference to Tory Lanez whose mixtape The New Toronto had recently dropped. The notion was that Drake's chart-topping style would produce emulators, particularly from his hometown. While it could be argued that Drake himself is an amalgamation of several other's styles, his frequent collaborator and fellow Torontonian Boi-1da just called out Lanez for his copying ways.

"If I hear one more terrible dancehall attempt of a song I'm out," the producer tweeted early Monday morning (June 13). Lanez responded by linking to his new track "Luv," which could be seen as an attempt at such a song. Boi-1da then, in splendid '90s kid fashion, wrote "oh hey Tory!" with a picture of the Pokemon Ditto, who is capable of shape shifting, though as one source notes, "cannot mimic the strength of another Pokémon, but it will adapt the form and abilities of its foe."

The debate of whether Drake's own dance hall favoritism is authentic to him is another story, but Boi-1da, who was born in Kingston, at least played a part in shaping his sound, as he was behind the boards for "Work," Rihanna's chart-topper featuring Drake. Boi-1da also produced "Summer Sixteen" so his loyalty to Drake with respect to Tory Lanez may run deeper than most.
